A Portfolio Performance Alternative That Lives in Your Browser
Love Portfolio Performance’s philosophy (your data, no bank logins) but tired of the desktop-only workflow and configuring quote feeds by hand? Same idea, zero setup, prices maintained for you.
What Portfolio Performance does well, and what it costs you
We compare honestly. These are its real strengths, with the trade-off attached.
🛠️
Deep desktop analytics
Time-weighted and money-weighted returns, Sharpe ratio, benchmarking and custom reports. Getting them means building the reports yourself and maintaining the data behind them. Our analysis (allocation, ETF overlap and X-ray, dividends, fees, goals) comes prebuilt and always up to date.
🔒
Local files
Free, open source, no account: your file never leaves your computer. The flip side is that your portfolio never leaves that computer either. We match the part of the privacy model that matters (no bank or broker credentials, full CSV export, delete anytime) and add access from every device you own.
👥
A real community
An active forum and community-built PDF importers for many European broker statements. The community is also your support channel and your data pipeline; when the Portfolio Report quote service shut down in November 2025, users had to migrate their own feeds. Here, price data is simply our job.
Why people switch
The reasons people look for a Portfolio Performance alternative
From the app’s own forum and public reviews.
🌐
It only lives on one computer
The full app is desktop-only; the mobile app is a limited companion. A web tracker is wherever you are: office, sofa, phone in a queue.
⚡
The learning curve
Reviewers describe the interface as a complex spreadsheet with a steep start. Here, adding an account and a few tickers is the whole onboarding.
📉
Quote feeds are your job
Prices are configured per security, and the community Portfolio Report data service many users relied on was discontinued in November 2025, forcing feed migrations. Our prices are simply maintained for you.
📱
No phone-friendly workflow
Checking your net worth should not require booting a desktop. The web app works in any modern browser, phone included.
📊
Analysis without the homework
ETF overlap detection, look-through sector and geography X-ray and fee-impact projections: prebuilt views instead of hand-built reports.
🗣️
Localized, consistently
Five languages, localized currencies and number formats, and localized pension types (Riester, Pillar 3a, PER, PGBL) as first-class accounts.
Switching
Move your data in four steps
Portfolio Performance has excellent CSV export, the cleanest migration of any tracker.
1
Export from Portfolio Performance
File, Export, CSV gives you securities, historical prices and all transactions, including ISIN, ticker, shares, fees and taxes.
2
Create a free account
An email address and a password. No card, no bank login, under a minute.
3
Import your CSV
Import your transactions or balances from CSV, TSV or Excel; search securities by ticker or ISIN to match them up.
4
Let it run
From here prices update themselves, snapshots build your history, and nothing needs configuring or updating again.
Pricing
Free like the desktop app, plus an optional Premium
The core tracker is free forever. Premium adds daily snapshots, unlimited history, dividend analysis, ETF overlap and the AI advisor for $6/month, $60/year, or $249 once, entirely optional. Comparing other trackers? See the free portfolio tracker overview, or how we compare to Sharesight, Empower and Snowball Analytics.
Is MyFinanceTools a good alternative to Portfolio Performance?+
Yes, if you like its philosophy (manual control, no bank logins) and want it without the homework: zero setup, maintained price data, mobile access, and prebuilt analysis like ETF overlap and fee impact. The honest caveat: we do not compute formal TWR/IRR/Sharpe figures; if those metrics are the reason you track, the desktop app keeps that edge.
Is there a web-based version of Portfolio Performance?+
Not an official one; Portfolio Performance is a desktop application with a companion mobile app. MyFinanceTools is an independent web-based tracker built on the same no-bank-linking philosophy, accessible from any browser.
Can I import my Portfolio Performance data?+
Yes, and it is the easiest migration of any tracker. Portfolio Performance exports securities, prices and all transactions to CSV (File, Export), and MyFinanceTools imports transactions or balances from CSV, TSV or Excel.
What happened to Portfolio Report, and does it affect me here?+
Portfolio Report, a community-run data service many Portfolio Performance users used for quotes, was discontinued in November 2025, which forced users to reconfigure price feeds. MyFinanceTools has no feeds to configure: stock, ETF and crypto prices are fetched and maintained server-side from 53+ exchanges.
Does MyFinanceTools calculate TWR and IRR like Portfolio Performance?+
No. Performance is shown as gains, losses and portfolio history rather than formal TWR/IRR figures. Our depth is elsewhere: ETF overlap and look-through X-ray, dividends, fee impact and goals, prebuilt and maintained for you.
Is my data as private as a local desktop file?+
A local file is the strictest possible model, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we match is the part that matters in practice: no bank or broker credentials, no account aggregation, manual/CSV data entry, and full CSV export so you can leave anytime, with the convenience of access from any device.
Does it import broker PDF statements?+
No, imports are CSV, TSV or Excel. Portfolio Performance’s community-built PDF importers for European brokers are genuinely useful; if your workflow depends on them, export their result to CSV and bring that across.
Can I try it without creating an account?+
Yes. The public demo portfolio shows the full tracker with realistic sample data. No signup, no download, no configuration.
Same philosophy, none of the setup
Your holdings, maintained prices, any device. Free to start.
